The Slow Slugs project that was in display until early September is not all serious, of course. Even though Hofman addresses some somber situations such as too much plastic, the corruption of religious authority, mortality, commercial life, decay, and all those other fun subjects, basically he’s just a young boy in a grown up body who wants to bring the people together.
“People are making contact with each other again. That is the effect of my sculptures in the public domain,” said Hofman. And it’s true. Who wouldn’t be drawn to the site of two enormous, colorful, flapping plastic slugs inching their way up a steep staircase? We can’t wait to see what Hofman pulls off next.
