I thought these were a great idea…then they decided to not use a free OS, which seems like a philosophical contradiction.
Jack Johnson in one of his songs says, “the knowledge is in the trees not in the glass windows” — seeing those kids in that beautiful forest staring at a screen working as unpaid developers reminded me of that song.
I just don’t see this version of the OLPC really meeting it’s goals… wait what are it’s goals?
I think it’s very good timing that Jeff Bezos is supporting OLPC – the credit crunch is going to put increased pressure on OLPC to succeed in 2009.
Having said that for a product aimed at the global market it seems a shame the offering at Amazon.co.uk isn’t the same as Amazon.com…
