Extensive testing )has been done in Europe and they seem very safe. We've had quite a few of them over the years, really nice bottles. I totally disagree with tap water being as safe and clean as bottled water. If you think that fluoride, chloramine, chloride, and the many other contaminants (some from toxic waste) in tap water are safe and clean, you need to think again before recommending it ... Bottom line is they're both not very good. One alternative (no affiliation) is Klean Kanteen, which is made from stainless steel, so can't leach aluminium or plastic nasties. Unfortunately, the fine print on a SIGG claims the bottles are not to be used for long term storage. This is troubling, as that is for what they are typically used and the company also does not reveal what material lines the inside of the bottles. I would consider a pyrex-like glass container for long term water storage, as glass is pretty safe and does not degrade in the recycling process.
