Hi there,
Because 65% of the waste stream in the U.S. is made up of compostable material and of that, more than half is generated residentially, I am designing a project that examines waste management within the urban ecology in the context of landfill. This current design idea explores human motivation and behavior change in relationship food waste and composting practices. My vision is to see landfill reduced, eliminate methane emissions and feed the planet. I believe many people doing small things in the present can have a big impact on the future.
As a grad student working on this thesis project I would, very much, like to attend the Resilience conference to enhance my thesis project.

Most simply put, we are the future. As designers we are meant to inspire and inform and address difficult problems and to look at the world in an unconventional way. We need to stop trying to sustain the Earth and start taking on a more proactive role to change the way that society functions in order to improve the overall quality of life. We need not to simply look at our present state on this planet, but to look to the future and what we want the legacy of our generation to be. Its time to stop philosophizing and start doing, creating, experimenting, and collaborating with others who embrace the same energy and vivacity to actually make a difference. We are all a part of this effort, and need more conferences such as this to bring visionaries together to be the change that we all keep talking about.

I work for a startup called Open Source Ecology, and we're building a community that will create open source documentation for permaculture and general agricultural practices so that anyone can use them.

I'd love to check out the latest and greatest technology and know-how to incorporate at our upcoming training center.

My keen interest in attending Compost Modern is based on my background in sustainability, my devotion to cities and a real belief that change will happen when we really consider the uniqueness of each society -albeit nature, a city, rural village or a farm. I feel that one of the best ways to learn is through others - change-makers, who are out there in the field making things happen.

I discover a lot of useful social initiatives just looking around in
the neighbourhood. But it’s easy to miss them. They need more visibility. I have just started my journey to learning more about sustainability. This would really be an amazing opportunity and ideal stepping stone to get more exposure and be inspired by a network of collaborative people .

As a graduate student in Visual Communications Design my MFA thesis and research focuses on integrating sustainable systems thinking into design education at the college level. Presently my work with Re-nourish.com focuses on providing interactive tools and resources for design students and professionals. Sustainability should be a much larger focus in the design process and I would like to attend Compostmodern to share ideas and gain inspiration with like-minded designers striving to achieve similar goals for the future of our profession.

I would love to attend so I could interconnect with other sustainable architects, designers and engineers to share my world changing approach to bamboo architecture that doesn't require any toxic glues like gluelam "plyboo" systems while also eliminating the cracking and hollow cavity issues associated with solid pole construction methods. My method of banding bamboo strips into beams will also transform the small diam. and crack prone native US bamboo species into affordable, sustainable and seismic resistant homes. This approach also makes logical sense as a means to rebuild Haiti, Pakistan and an expanding global population while combating climate change. Just a simple expression that exploits the flex properties of bamboo strips: http://bambitat.com/2008Drawings.html

Design continues to expand and grow, events like this are worth way more than any monetary value, anyone would be so lucky to attend this. Being that I reside in San Francisco, I would gladly accept the available ticket and put it to good use. :)

I am passionate about sustainability and have been wanting to hear and meet most of the names attending Compostmodern, alas can not afford it. I would love to have a chance to be there, join the discussions, learn more, think more, question more, and indulge myself into the hope for a better future :) Thank you!
