Gallery: Fourth Annual Gorgeous & Green Eco Fashion Show

This week Inhabitat managing editor Mike Chino and writer Piper Kujac attended the Fourth Annual Gorgeous & Green Party to celebrate the extraordinary efforts of the Global Green Organization. Truth be told, we were also in search of the perfect green cocktail and believe we successfully carried out that task as well (it’s the Acai-infused VeeV ‘honey lips’ mixer!). The usual place- fanciful, LEED Certified Bently Reserve in San Francisco, graced a star-studded crowd including actress Kate Bosworth, actor Jason Lewis, architect William McDonough, and so many more.

One of the highlights of the evening was the Eco-Chic Fashion Show, which blended high style with sustainable outcomes. Mike Chino’s favorite get up was this sustainably-sourced lambswool peacoat paired with organic cotton pants by Sameunderneath, and mine was a toss between the versatile Lara Miller 100% Bamboo Kelleigh Flip Dress and the Edun Sweater Dress.

There are so many designers and amazing people to credit for the success of this fund raiser, but three in particular, Zem Joaquin of Ecofabulous, eco-editor Nadine Weil of 944 Magazine, and Global Green USA President Matt Petersen are especially good at bringing together green activists and the fashionista elite. Mike and I would like to believe we fit right in!

Global Green USA is the American outreach of the environmental organization, Green Cross International, which formed in 1993 and was initiated by President Mikhail Gorbachev. The Global Green mission is ‘to create a global value shift toward a more secure and sustainable future by working to mitigate global warming, expand green building and green schools, eliminate weapons of mass destruction, and ensure access to clean water.’ They are successfully doing this with innovative programs for Green Schools, Green Affordable Housing, and Solar Energy for California and Nationally. Global Green has ongoing projects to rebuild New Orleans with actor Brad Pitt, and they also host the Red Carpet Green Cars Campaign at the Oscars.

Needless to say, it was an ‘eco-fabulous’ event, and Global Green USA is an equally fabulous organization to get involved with!
