Gallery: GM Announces It Will Offer a Plug-in Hybrid Chevy Cruze


According to Jim Federico, who is GM’s executive director, group vehicle line director and VLE for global compact, mini, small and electric vehicles (yes, they have long titles over there), the company is planning to offer a plug-in hybrid version of the Chevy Cruze. But, wait. Isn’t that the same thing as a Volt?

    Why is GM still trying to push the Volt as an EV? It’s a hybrid. Any vehicle with more than one form of motive power is a hybrid.

    That being said, I think they will sell a lot more of the Cruze plug-in hybrid than Volts, especially if it’s priced to compete with the Prius. GM is having such a hard time explaining what the Volt is, mainly because they want the green halo of an EV, even though it’s not an EV and more than the Plug-in Prius is an EV.
