And another domino falls. According to a new report in a German newspaper, GM’s European brand Opel will be the next automaker to release a subcompact EV. The new car will be similar to the current Corsa model pictured here and smaller than the current Ampera model, which is a version of the Chevrolet Volt.
As Formula 1 sizes down and heads toward electrification, one automaker after another reveals plans to offer smaller, electrified versions of their most popular compact and subcompact cars. While many of these vehicles are still in development, recent battery advances have made producing these cars a realistic goal in the next few years. Look for a wide offering of small EVs like Opel’s by 2013 or 2014.
