Recently the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort in Lake Placid, NY was awarded a 5-Green Leaf Rating from Audubon International and the Audubon Greenleaf Eco-Rating Program. The lakeside resort is now the only resort in the US with the 5-Green Leaf honor and only one of two resorts in the world who have achieved this eco-rating, making it the greenest resort in the US. Golden Arrow has been working diligently on their green initiatives and business sustainability since 2005, which include recycling programs, energy efficiency upgrades and guest amenities.
Audubon International has been helping lodging properties improve their sustainability scorecard since 1998 and annually awards properties in the US, Canada and Europe with an eco-rating from 1 to 5 Green Leaves. To become a 5-Green Leaf hotel or resort, the property must be a world leader and innovator of eco-efficiency and clearly demonstrate leadership in the industry on green and sustainable practices. In 2008, Golden Arrow was awarded with a 4-Green Leaf Rating and now has been moved up to 5 to become the greenest resort in the US.
Among their many green practices, Golden Arrow has installed a 3,400 square foot green roof to help insulate the hotel, as well as offer a view their guests can enjoy from a nearby deck. Their white sand beach is made from crushed limestone and helps reduce the effects of acid rain on the lake. They buy carbon credits, offer guests green gift bags with eco-friendly products, in-room recycling, green meetings, education programs, VIP hybrid parking, green cleaning products, energy efficiency upgrades and much, much more. Looking for a green vacation idea for this summer? This is just the place.
