It’s a good time to be green, and Google is leading the way. Last year, the search giant Google announced that their installation of the solar panels on their campus, which are expected to provide around 1,600 kw/h. And keeping with their green commitment, they recently launched the Google solar panel project webpage which will help anyone track how much power their solar panels are generating. And now, their newest green initiatives include everything from plug-in hybrids and car-powered homes to carbon neutrality.

I read recently about how Google could goes really green. It’s suposed that if Google would change the white background of its main page for a black one they will get to save a lot of energy because monitors need more energy to show us the white colour.

I would like to know whether the decrease in energy coincident with this colour change would be met by an increase in the carbon footprint of spectacle manufacturers needing to provide for all those people with eye-strain…
I wanted to send this to a friend, but the verification image is not coming up – any ideas?
ha ha ha!… but I think that black background is less aggresive to the eye… at least for me… and users of cad softwares…
Just to clarify – the installed capacity would be 1,600 “kW”, not “kW/h”. I.e. in full sun for 1 hour this would generate 1,600 kWh.
Am not surprised that they are really taking it up a notch. Good job, Google!
