Google Invests to Bring Solar Power Systems to 3,000 Homes

Google has recently been making great green strides, putting itself on the map in the world of renewable energy. First, they teamed up with Duke Energy to invest in the power of pig poop , and now they are investing in solar energy. In a partnership with Clean Power Finance, Google will invest $75 million to help 3,000 homes install solar panel systems.
Google will invest in a variety of sun-catching hardware, like photovoltaic panels, and the inverters used to convert the power collected into electricity. Outfitting your home with a solar panel system can initially cost between $30,000 to $40,000 – this is something that has deterred many homeowners from making the switch from the utility grid to solar energy. But through Google, the photovoltaic panels will be available – free of charge – to homeowners across the country. Rather than racking up larger utility bills in the extreme weather months, homeowners will simply pay Google a fixed monthly rate for energy access. Installation and maintenance will also be covered with the monthly fee.
True, Google seeks to make continual profit after their initial investment is paid off with the monthly payments, but homeowners will also benefit by being able to budget their money more accurately with the new fixed rate. Not to mention they will be able to power their homes with clean, renewable energy .
Google has already invested over $850 million in various facets of green energy, which itself is a growing field . The solar panels will not bear the Google logo, so homeowners need not worry that their roofs will become impromptu billboards. The program will start in the sunny states of Arizona, California and Colorado.
