Green Glue is a new noise proofing compound that dramatically improves sound isolation and significantly lessens noise without being harmful to the environment. It’s water based, non-toxic, non-carcinogenic, and very low in volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) – containing less than 5 grams per liter, making it compliant in all 50 US states and worldwide. And it really works – just one layer of the glue sandwiched between two layers of drywall or other building material will decrease the sound transmission by up to 90 percent, cutting out the noise and improving your home life. In addition, using it on both the floors and ceiling of a room will dissipate sound energy even further.

We used it in our home cinema and the kids can’t hear a thing upstairs. Very sticky but it cleans up ok. There’s an animation showing how to use it here
