For the latest episode of GigaOM TV’s Green Overdrive show, we bring you a ride in a Beta version of electric car maker Tesla‘s second car – the Model S. A Beta car is an almost production-ready car, and Tesla plans to launch commercial Model S in mid-2012. The Model S is one of the first electric cars designed from the ground up around the batteries, in contrast to most EVs that are internal combustion engine cars that have been stuffed with batteries. Check out our test ride and our interview with Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen for more!

When the first Toyota Prius came out, people either loved it or hated. The perky hybrid combined old and new technology in a package that allowed consumers to get big savings. The main clinching point why some people disliked it was its form factor. That isn’t the problem with this electric car. Sporting a sleek style with clean lines, this dynamo shows that sustainability and design can go hand in hand together. The only thing to talk about now is the pricing.
