Greenaid Installs Seedbomb Vending Machines to Beautify Our Cities

Inhabitat reader dnl.phillips [5] tells us about his Greenaid [6] project, which installs “Seedbomb [7]” vending machines in urban spaces to enable average city dwellers to become modern day Johnny Appleseeds. By appropriating quarter-operated candy machines for distribution of these vegetal concoctions, the Greenaid project attempts to temporarily reclaim and transform neglected urban sites [8] into spaces worth looking at and caring for.
Greenaid [6] machines can be strategically placed at various sites across any urban area and filled with micro-seedbombs [10] specially formulated for a specific locale or context. The project is equally an interactive public awareness campaign, and a fundraising tool for grass roots action that engages directly yet casually with local residents to both reveal and remedy issues of spatial inequity in their community.
Commonstudio [11], an emerging interdisciplinary design studio based in Los Angeles, is currently developing a scalable initiative that explores the educational, ecological, and economic potential of the Greenaid system.
