An amazing new material called Liquid Wood just made its debut in gorgeously curved lamp form. Developed by NuDe, the GreenLantern is a colorful LED lamp with a built-in planter for bringing a burst of greenery to your desk. Designed by Romolo Stanco, the GreenLantern is available in a variety of colors and patterns, and it can even be customized using a downloadable iPhone app!

The GreenLantern has two functions – it serves as a lamp and also as a planter. The lamp extends as an organic horn-like shape with a flower pot at its base. The “horn” is lined with an energy-efficient strip of LED lights specially designed for the GreenLantern. The low-energy bulbs emit a warm luminous glow that supports the photosynthesis process of the accompanying plant, creating a direct relationship between the lamp and host plant.

The lamp’s material is almost entirely organic as well. Liquid Wood is an organic polymer comprised of waste from wood by-products. The main ingredient is Lingin, an organic polymer derived from wood that is largely present in plant cell walls. This material is mixed with wood fibers in a process much like the creation of pulp when making paper. The resulting material is easily malleable when heated and can be injected into molds to produce an effect similar to plastic.

GreenLanterns have a slight aroma of toasted wood, which adds to the cozy atmosphere that their glow creates. The lamp illuminates with touch, rather than a bulky switch. If you plant herbs or a berry plant within the flower pot, the GreenLantern would be a feast for the senses of touch, sight, smell and taste! The lamps can be customized in terms of color, design, and of course plant choice, allowing customers to create the perfect organic lamp.
