Guy Laramee carves dusty old encyclopedias and stacks of books into jaw-dropping miniature landscapes complete with mountains, temples, volcanoes and caves. Drawing on the success of his previous work, the Montreal-based artist, composer and writer has completed a new collection of carved landscapes titled Guan Yin - read on to see more!
Guan Yin is a series of art pieces dedicated to the forces that enable people to deal with traumatic situations, grief or pain. Laramee reflected on such emotions when last year he saw his own mother died and was shocked at the images of the Japanese tsunami. Those traumatic situations inspired the artist to new magnificent art that is both melancholic and strong.
Dealing with pain and feelings of devastation, Guy Laramee has been creating gorgeous snowy and grass-topped mountains on old encyclopedias for a long time.
