Guan Yin is a series of art pieces dedicated to the forces that enable people to deal with traumatic situations, grief or pain. Laramee reflected on such emotions when last year he saw his own mother died and was shocked at the images of the Japanese tsunami. Those traumatic situations inspired the artist to new magnificent art that is both melancholic and strong.
Dealing with pain and feelings of devastation, Guy Laramee has been creating gorgeous snowy and grass-topped mountains on old encyclopedias for a long time. He sums up as: ‘Our love for mountains will heal us’. If you are out an about in Quebec, don’t miss out his current exhibition Guan Yin, at Expression gallery in Saint-Hyacinthe until August the 12.
