Most of us have seen the islands of discarded plastic bottles that bob around in our oceans and create mountains in landfill sites, but there are a few companies out there that are harnessing all that trash and turning it into something better. Thread, a socially responsible company that creates fabric from bottles collected in the developing world, is partnering with Pittsburgh-based canvas bag manufacturer Moop to launch a series of special edition bags. Each bag creates jobs and supports a network of over 1,620 income opportunities in the poorest neighborhoods in Haiti. These bags feature liners made from 16 plastic bottles that have been processed into polyester, and assembled by talented artists and makers in Western Pennsylvania.
