Gallery: Happy Thanksgiving from the Inhabitat Team!

BRIT, New York Editor: Today I'll be spending my day being thankful with my family in Massachusetts. We'll be cooking a local, farm raised bird with local, organic produce on the side. In my house, Thanksgiving is always full of generations-old family recipes, which helps you remember to give thanks to the people that came before you. With my grandmother's cornbread stuffing recipe we'll be giving thanks to the green thumb that she passed on to all of her descendants and when we eat my uncles favorite brussels sprouts off of my great grandmother's china we'll give thanks to her for the cooking skills that she embedded in our genes.

I'm thankful also for wonderful friends, my new husband and the organic beer he brews -- which we'll be drinking this holiday with my family -- and for all of the great new green innovation that's happening in the world. Though I know our government is a bit behind on policy, the great thinkers of our time are coming up with solutions on a daily basis that can help save our place on this planet. I'm hopeful for the future and thankful that even if progress is slow, we're still moving forward.
