Dutch designer Harm Rensink has created a fantastic pop-up spa that gives city dwellers a welcome place to relax. Dubbed Urban Spa, this inflatable sauna is shaped like a cozy cocoon and it can be placed indoors or outdoors to provide a warm place for spending time during cold winter days. Sleek, portable and minimalist, Rensink's spa provides health for the body and peace for the mind.
Harm Rensink ‘s Urban Spa is an experimental space designed to give people in populated cities a space to unwind and relax. The project consists of a translucent plastic bubble that is filled with steam set alongside a changing room with all the amenities needed to enjoy a spa experience. Rensink set up his Urban Spa at the last Dutch Design Week, where visitors could reserve a spot at the end of each day during the festival .
Rensink also designed some cozy garments and accessories for pampering oneself. A fluffy bath rope was on hand for walking to the inflatable sauna after getting undressed at the changing room. Placed on a small low table were a few elements that made the experience sensory and tactile. A set of fluffy geometric sleepers, a hand towel for scrubbing the body and some drinking water were also part of the experience. Rensink also created some unique scrubbers by covering soaps with natural felt .
The lightweight steam room can be can be easily assembled in a wide-open space indoors or left outside on a rooftop for enjoying the fresh air when popping out. The streamlined design of the steam bubble sauna and the flooded floor contrasted with the industrial context to make this beautiful project stand out from the rest.
Harm Rensink’s gorgeous Urban Spa provided visitors at this year’s busy Dutch Design Week with a tranquil private space to forget about work and start dreaming away.
