All of you savvy Inhabitat readers know that sustainable = sexy when it comes to design. However, we realize that there is still a stigma out there in general culture that equates sustainable design with straw bale houses and ugly hemp sandals. Fortunately, more and more designers and media outlets are providing examples of stylish sustainable design to conquer that misperception. Now, HauteGREEN show [5], the big eco-design event of the year is coming to New York City this weekend, and we can’t wait to check it out:

In Bart Bettencourt’s [6] warehouse over in Williamsburg, over 40 of the best and brightest sustainable designers will be exhibiting their work, showing innovative and sexy examples of eco-friendly furniture, lighting and accessories.

Saturday through Monday, May 20-22, 12-7pm

The roster includes some of our old favorites, such as Scrapile [4], PoppyCotton [2], and Rhubarb Decor [3](new work shown above); and new faves like Uhuru [7] and Perch [8].
Word on the street is that there will be a couple new surprise by Tobias Wong and Scrapile, so if you want to be the first to see – get thee to Williamsburg this weekend.

The exhibition was curated by Aric Chen [9], Graham Hill [10] and Kimberly Oliver [11]. The event is being hosted by Bettencourt Green Building Supplies [6], the point of origin for Scrapile and other sustainable wood products.

We’ll be reporting from the show starting this Friday and going through weekend until the Monday night party. If you’re in town for New York Design week, don’t miss it! Otherwise, keep it dialed to Inhabitat for up-to-the-minute coverage.
