When you’re in an unfamiliar city, renting a car is always useful for getting around – but what if you’re more environmentally conscious? Never fear, for car rental company Hertz has begun renting out electric bicycles at their Marble Arch branch. The company now boasts a fleet of twelve Ultra Motor e-bikes for both tourists and residents. The company’s initiative is sure to make London mayor (and avid cyclist) Boris Johnson very happy. Johnson recently said he aims to turn London into the electric vehicle capital of Europe, and the Hertz plan will certainly help his green efforts.
On the back of the growing popularity of electric bikes, and more and more people opting to cycle around the capital city, Hertz have realized the potential of offering a green alternative to customers – as well as something to navigate the city’s numerous one-way streets.
For Hertz, the rental scheme will be aimed at both locals and tourists who wish to travel around the city without creating emissions. In a statement, Michel Taride, President of Hertz International, commented, “Whether you’re a Londoner wanting to explore hidden treasures or find new places to shop, or a tourist wanting to see all London has to offer, the Ultra Motor bikes are a fast, green and economical mode of transport. We are pleased to offer electric bikes for an easy and fun way to explore the capital.”
If you are interested in renting at e-bike, it will cost £20 per day (that’s approximately $35) and that will include training, a lock, optional helmet and a copy of the AA Leisure Guide to London so you don’t get lost.
