Built for just $117 per square foot, the Chasen Residence is compact, affordable and decidedly contemporary. In order to create a sense of expansiveness, the design team clustered the entryways, stairs, hallway, kitchen and a half bathroom on one side of the house, leaving the rest as a large, open living space.

In Situ Studio notes that a variety of techniques have been incorporated to collect energy and reduce how much is consumed. Standard interventions include passive solar orientation and insulation which mitigates undue thermal loss.
