Designed for a family of three, the small home by Hiroyuki Shinozaki Architects maintains strong connections and sight lines with its surroundings. Natural light streams into large windows and skylights [2] that also frame views of neighboring gardens and fields.

The playful, lopsided interior consists of irregularly sized living spaces that radiate outwards from a central, arched space. Each curved, pumpkin ridge-like dividing wall convenes at the apex of the central arched room to support a large roof. In lieu of a second floor, wooden shelves accessible by stepladders jut out from the sides of the walls to create additional space. A simple materials palette consisting of warm wooden tones, locally cut white stone, and gray concrete matches the minimalist, open plan layout [3].
