This historic lodging house in Leeds, UK was at one time used to house seasonal workers, but it has undergone a miraculous transformation into a super green residential complex, complete with a wind turbine, solar hot water panels, water recycling, and an innovative program that allows residents to monitor their personal energy and water use through their TV. Greenhouse is located a short 10 minute walk outside of Leed's city center and it even offers residents plot of land down the street to grow their own fruits and veggies.

I would appreciate hearing more about the wind turbine and its connection to the “shared lighting” – how does that work exactly? Does this mean that none of the residents have light bills, or does “shared” just refer to the common space lighting? Otherwise, the space looks amazing – what a fabulous inspiration for those of us in the U.S. interested in rehabilitation of existing buildings.
