Gallery: Hobbit Hole Chicken Coops Bring the Beauty of the Shire to You...

As J.R.R Tolkein once wrote, “In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.” The hens living in these handcrafted Hobbit coops by Wooden Wonders would certainly agree! Each coop is built out of pine by a family in Maine and able to hold 5-15 chickens – and you can customize them with your choice of paint, shingles, and interiors.

The Hobbit Hole coops are available in several different models inspired by the The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Each comes equipped with a nest box, 4 feet of roosting space, two windows, and AvanTech flooring for moisture resistance and durability. Optional features available for the truly dedicated chicken-keeper include a lift-out linoleum insert to help with easy cleaning, insulated floors for colder climates, and a variety of exterior paint choices.  Built out of pine with “the strength of Ents and Dwarves”, the three different floor plans will make your chickens the envy of the Shire. However, you might need to go in search of some dragon’s gold in order to finance one of these beauties, as they start at around $1,700 USD.
