Homemade Baked Table Installation Is Good Enough to Eat
This is not the first time we’ve feature edible tableware here at Inhabitat, but this bread installation by London-based Spanish designer Andere Monjo has all the elements we need to get our design and taste buds standing. Hand and homemade for the 2010 London Design Festival, the Baked Table is a collection of tableware made from flour, water and lots of tiny seeds, providing a tasty texture to the mix. The completed installation includes plates, bowls, cutlery and textiles, all made from bread.
Monjo’s poetic explorative approach to design comes from her Textile Futures studies at prestigious Central Saint Martins College in London, where saw baking bread as an early traditional craft to explore. Her use of different types of seeds within the mix provides this ephemeral art piece with new colors, textures and flavors that delicately embellishing the bread, as beads would do to fabrics.
Andere Monjo’s work has been selected for exhibition in numerous international events such as 100% Design London, Maison et Objet Paris, Salone Satellite Milano, Naturalia Switzerland and ABC Home New York – always bringing a tasty and tactile experience to the table.
