A hotel in Nashville, Tennessee has created the world’s first electric Nissan LEAF stretch limo. This is probably one of the last cars that you would ever think of seeing converted into a limousine, but the Embassy Suites hotel in Nashville wanted a new green vehicle to shuttle their guests around. “This is the world’s first road-worthy, licensed, street legal electric limousine.” said Trevor Goulding, director of sales for Embassy Suites Nashville South.
The hotel chain contracted a company in Missouri to make the modifications to the standard LEAF. Although most of the LEAF’s original parts remain intact, 400 pounds have been added in the center of the car to make room for up to eight passengers, including the driver. All that extra weight from the added mirrors, leather and cedar paneling will hurt the electric LEAF limo’s driving range, but the hotel estimates that a typical trip is less than five miles from the hotel.
“The LEAF will be primarily VIP car service, anybody who is looking for that special treatment to get around in the area,” said Goulding.
Even though the thought of turning a Nissan LEAF into a stretched limousine may seem ludicrous to most people, one good thing is coming out of it. Many of the hotel’s guests have never been inside an electric car before, so the LEAF limo is providing the hotel guests their first ride in an electric car, albeit in a stretched form.
Hotel guest, Krystal Serrano stated, “It feels so smooth. You can’t even really hear the engine running, but it wasn’t like being in a golf cart either.”
