House Abo Beats the Heat in South Africa With Natural Cooling Techniques

To connect the lower and upper levels of House Abo, Nico van der Meulen Architects installed a staircase that changes the dynamics of the site itself. It is surrounded by areas of steel and glass, while the outside pool is encased within a timber wall. The home’s lighting highlights the staircase while making light bounce off the reflective black swimming pool.

The studio expanded the original space and doubled its size while introducing large glass windows that allow sunlight to seep in during the darker winter days. For more information, visit the architects’ official website.
