Ok I’ll admit it – I have a thrifting problem. I love scouting out vintage furniture at flea markets and second-hand stores, although sometimes my eyes are too big for my tiny apartment. Take this classic Pollock Executive Chair – sure, it’s not in tip-top condition (there’s a few cracks in the leather and some damage to the shell), but it’s a bonafide classic and the price was right, so I picked it up. Well, months went by and I eventually came to terms with the fact that I don’t have space for another chair (or the time to invest in fixing it up), so I turned to Chairish‘s new iPhone app, which makes selling secondhand furniture a snap. Simply download the app here and in three simple steps you’ll be on the way to finding a new home for your pre-loved furnishings.
I’m a big fan of mid-century design, so I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to pick up a fixer-upper Pollock Executive Chair a year ago. Charles Pollock’s original design dates back to 1963, and for me it’s the holy grail of task chairs – it perfectly balances comfort and ergonomics with an elegant profile that isn’t complicated by excessive features, knobs, and levers.
Unfortunately, I never got around to giving my Pollock Chair the care it needed, so it was time to find it a new home. I downloaded Chairish’s new iPhone app, and in just a few minutes I submitted my chair to the Rehab Clinic, which specializes in furnishings that need a fresh coat of paint, a reupholstery job, or an extra bit of TLC.
The first step to creating a new listing with Chairish’s new iPhone app is to snap a few quick pics of your item from the front, back, left, and right sides. Next fill out your asking price, the estimated full retail price, the dimensions of the item, and a brief description of its condition. You can also set up a local pickup address and a phone number/email address for any questions from potential buyers.
The app’s interface is clear, snappy, and straightforward – it took me less than 5 minutes to submit my chair, and I’m actually tempted to walk through the house hunting for other items to sell. Once you submit an item it will be reviewed for approval by Chairish’s tastemakers, and Chairish will take care of all of the merchandising, delivery, and payment. They approved my listing and it’s currently live – so if you’re interested in purchasing the chair you can check it out here.
Chairish is also a great resource for buying vintage design gems – their curated collection is a breath of fresh air for those tired of the chaos of Craigslist or the unpredictable stock at secondhand stores. And if you’re a first-time user, Chairish just launched a contest where you can win an entire room’s worth of 10 furnishings, including a chic emerald green sofa, a Roost Anders high-back chair, retro lamps and a carved starburst mirror. Just download the Chairish iPhone app and create an account and you’ll be automatically entered.
