Watching movies at home is a pretty green form of entertainment (no carbon expended driving to an overly-air-conditioned movie theater) — but there aren’t a lot of great green options when it comes to amassing a pile of DVDs or blu-ray discs. Purchasing these discs wastes a whole lot of plastic, packaging and other materials for individual films that will only be watched a handfull of times, and even subscribing to Netflix mail-order involves a hefty carbon footprint for all the shipping of DVDs back and forth. Happily, we’ve recently discovered the fabulous Roku Box, a gadget that lets you stream films, television shows and music right to your TV. It’s a great way to cut the clutter, carbon and inconvenience of amassing piles of dvds, and makes enjoying movies in the comfort of your own home a cleaner and greener experience.
