The Humane Society of the United States is sounding the alarm: Beware of retailers marketing real fur as faux fur while doing your holiday shopping this season. On Tuesday, the nonprofit filed a petition with the Federal Trade Commission accusing 11 retailers of misrepresenting fur fashions as “faux” even though lab tests reveal that they contain raccoon, coyote, or other animal fibers. The Humane Society is asking the FTC to take action against the companies named and impose fines of $5,000 per violation.
