The West Philly high school Hybrid X Team beat out 43 corporate entrants and Ivy League teams such as Cornell to win the Green Grand Prix’s 100-mile fuel economy MPG Road Rally this week, with their EVX GT diesel hybrid car. The young team has been climbing the ranks of similar competitons lately, their hybrid Focus finishing as a semi-finalist in the Automotive X Prize several months ago when they entered their 60-mpg Attack in the competition.
The EVX GT car was built using a Factor Five GTM supercar kit with a diesel hybrid engine to achieve 160 mpge over the course of the 100-mile race. The West Philly team has an impressive array of vehicles under its belt already, which you can see on their award-packed website.
