Bike aficionados and green tech buffs will love the new Icon E-Flyer Electric Bike, which combines modern technology with the classic elegance of World War I board racers. Each of the 50 limited edition two-wheelers, with a top speed of up to 36 miles per hour, is handcrafted to bring that retro look of the first motorcycles ever made into the modern age.
ICON, a Los Angeles-based company dedicated to building vintage cars and 4WDs, has teamed up with Vintage Electric based in Santa Clara to modernize the WWI board racer. ICON’s first two-wheeled vehicle packs an 3,500-Watt electric motor and 52v battery that can achieve sustained propulsion for two hours on a single charge. In the street legal mode, the bike travels at an average speed of 20 mph.
E-Flyer is equipped with regenerative braking made possible by the state-of-the-art battery power and a lightweight frame made from hydro-formed aluminum that provides a higher degree of strength. The combination of aluminium, steel, handmade leather, nickel and brass detailing makes the E-Flyer Electric Bike kind of pricey ($5,000), but it definitely stands out from a growing crowd of electric bikes.
