Despite looking like something straight out of Star Wars – Icosa Village’s collection of “Pod” prefab shelters are actually very down-to-earth. The pods are practical, affordable, and easy-to-build, with the pieces snapping together like Erector Sets. Starting around $2000, the Bucky-inspired dymaxion shelters are super cheap, and are designed to be used for a variety of recreational, promotional, and humanitarian uses.
where does the bathroom go- literally!
I had tried for years to obtain some of these. Wanted to use for summer shelter for Alaskan remote tours and was attempting to set up a stockpile of relief supplies. NUMEROUS times tried to purchase but kept getting put off, delays, re-designs, not currently in manufacture…sold out for burning man… each and every time they were willing to take deposits up-front but never able to purchase for cold-hard-cash-money at shipment.
Love the idea and the concept is perfect for my original plans in Alaska (now utilize about 40-45 Yurts instead) and FEMA seems to be no longer interested (200 units) post Katrina.
Did I mention that I attempted to purchase starting in the late 90′s?! Never able to get even one.
Organizationally, if the business end is brought current, the product should follow swiftly behind! Too bad as I feel this product had EXCELLENT potential; just poor management.
Will keep checking back every year or so to see what happened with the original company and if they ever decide to sell patents and dies etc if they are not willing to produce…

Why does this website appear to be dead? Are you actually in production or is this just a concept idea? I would consider buying one if the concept is actually in production and what are the sizes and price ranges?
I’m interested in knowing more about the composition of these structures and cost. I’m looking to house a pc of printing equipment within a larger facility but need a more sterile, temp and humidity controlable area. Need an interior area of around 200 sq ft. How small do they come? Is this a sensible solution? Height is no problem. Can heating or temp controls be added? Exhaust?

while this dohicky looks realy cool, the yurt is still 100 times cheaper, capable of being made from sheet plastic / felt blankets and thin sticks (woven into a lative)
and yes, a yurt will forld into a backpak
however, A) i dont think they set out to remake the yurt, im only playing around B) I wouldnt build a yurt in my backyard for fun.
One of the best aspects is the integrated windows, something the mongols dont seem to peturbed about
21st Century Yurt for the 21st Century Nomad.
I want one!!
