IGLOOPLAY KIDS FURNITURE

by , 05/14/06

In honor of Mother’s Day, we thought we’d cover some mom-friendly (and kid-friendly) contemporary design. If you have energetic little ones but still want to maintain a stylish design aesthetic, then Iglooplay is the furniture for you. I don’t even have kids, yet checking out Iglooplay’s adorable Mod Rocker and Tea Pods makes me wanna get started soon, so I have a reason to buy these insanely cute bent-ply pieces!

I spotted Iglooplay yesterday at the BKLYN Design fair. I don’t know if the company just got lucky when I happened to be standing in front of their booth, but it seemed that every kid between the ages of 2-5 who was at the fair was at the Iglooplay booth, playing in and amongst their furniture. Eva and Max (shown in these photographs) seem to get a big kick out of the furniture. Clearly the company is doing something right if kids are scrambling over each other to play with the Iglooplay pieces.

Iglooplay is a children’s furniture collection based out of Brooklyn, NY, that combines organic forms, ergonomics and a modernist sensibility to playfully engage both children and adults. Designer Lisa Albin conceived the company when she had her first baby and realized that there was very little thoughtfully designed children’s furniture on the market. Observing the way her growing toddler played and interacted with shapes, materials and color, she began to develop designs that were engaging to kids and aesthetically pleasing to adults.

In 2005 the Iglooplay collection earned a Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum / Museum of Architecture and Design. The Mod Rocker has been awarded Honorable Mention from the 2006 I.D. Magazine Annual Design Review.
