IKEA recently launched its long-awaited PS 2012 collection at Milan Design Week's Ventura Lambrate district. Featuring 46 new modern home furniture products with a keen focus on sustainability, the show was characterized by a bold color palette and new material combinations. Inhabitat was on the scene snapping up pics of our favorite pieces, from planted tables to clever new shelving solutions - step into our gallery for a peek!
This bamboo table has three changeable tabletops – a planter, a fruit bowl and a normal flat table. It can also be put together to create different compositions.
Poltrona is a minimalist take on the old school lounge chair. All the unnecessary material (including the upholstery) has been removed, the whole chair is made from only one material, and it is in fact surprisingly comfortable.
This shelving designed by Sarah Fager is a modern take on the traditional spice drawer. It allows for flexibility of size and is made in bamboo and recyclable PET.
These IKEA PS 2012 bowls designed by Marcus Arvonen are made from two materials: recycled PET and WPC , a mixture of wood and plastic fiber.
The IKEA PS 2012 candlestick is designed in separate parts that you can put together in different combinations. The design leaves it up to you to decide whether you want a more traditional candlestick or an asymmetrical candelabra.
Ola Wihlborg designed a series of foldable plastic bowls in varying sizes for IKEA. They can be flattened out completely, which allows them to be transported in thin plastic sheets.
Redesigned the classic sofa, Nike Karlsson has created a light and airy design that keeps material use to a minimum. Moreover, the mattress is made of pocket springs which are comfortable and can be easily recycled.
“The IKEA PS 2012 collection doesn’t release new furniture in old styles,” explained Lars Petersson, Country Manager at IKEA Italy. “Instead, the collection finds inspiration from the past and innovates designs that belong more to homes of today and tomorrow.”
