As some have already commented, the lamps contain (replaceable) rechargeable batteries, so they can most definitely light up a dark desk at dusk (say that three times quickly!).

The name “Solvinden” by the way, is swedish for “The Solar Wind”.

Hopefully they have a bit more light output, battery and charging capacity than the solar lamps in my lawn… they’re no good unless left outside permanently, useless for six months of the year, and only really provide enough illumination to mark the edge of the path rather than to do any activities under.

For doing actual camping, we just have LED lanterns with rechargable NiMH cells…

I just want a solar panel to stick in my window, to run my kitchen appliances. The lamp is a novelty only, but hook it to a small battery storage pack so everyday people can use it at night …when lamps are needed…then you might have something.

This is a joke by Ikea, right? I mean, if you have enough sun light to power a lamp…you don’t need the lamp. Anyone that chooses to buy these lamps, I have some solar powered flashlights to sell you.
