Gallery: Impressive Magistral Cabinet Facade Constructed with 80,000 Ba...

The artist and designer has built the sheild around the cabinet to act like an armor to conceal the belongings that are held within, which can be opened to reveal everything inside.

Encasing Sebastian Errazuriz’s ‘Magistral Cabinet’ is a protective facade constructed from 80,000 bamboo skewers. Painstakingly hand-crafted by 12 carpenters, the cabinet is built to be opened up in different sections to reveal everything inside. When closed, the shield around the cabinet acts like armor to conceal the belongings that are held within.

New York-based Errazuriz recruited 12 carpenters over the course of 6 weeks to carefully carve and hammer each and every individual skewer into the wooden structure (phew – that’s a massive job!). But all their hard work certainly paid off as the construction looks a like formidible and impressive sculpture.
