This amazing sand installation is a larger-than-life philharmonic orchestra located on Barcelona's sunny city beach! Created by German group
Sandart, the public artwork invites passers-by to come and soak up the sun in a deckchair and listen to classical music on a headset to support and promote
Vienna's philharmonic orchestra. A team of 7 artists spent two weeks and a massive 200 metric tons of sand to perfect the detailed sculptures. Take a look after the jump for more pictures of this awesome installation!
The entire installation was crafted from a mixture of imported sand, water, and glue to help protect the figures from collapsing in the wind. Each of the sand-sculpted musicians are unique, and they’re each depicted playing a different instrument in front of a conductor who stands between them and the audience.
The sculpture is located in the center of Barcelona’s main drag and looks out over the sea and offers a peaceful alternative to the hoards of beach-goers strolling along the seafront! If you’re lucky enough to be in the area, be sure to check out the musical intervention before it closes on June 7.
