This summer, visitors to Governors Island will get to enjoy not one, but two City of Dreams Pavilions made from recycled materials. Izaskun Chinchilla Architects’ gorgeous Organic Growth will be joining BanG’s Billion Oyster Pavilion on the grassy knoll of the island’s parade grounds this year. The colorful canopy will look like a series of flower bouquets from afar, but will be made from recycled elements like old umbrellas and bicycle wheels. If you love the look of Organic Growth, head over to Izaskun Chinchilla’s Kickstarter page and help them get the project off the ground!

Foster + Partners reveal plans for new metro system in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Foster-+-Partners-Jeddah-Metro-Station

Award-winning architecture firm Foster + Partners just unveiled plans for a new city-wide public transportation plan for Jeddah—one of the most vibrant city centres in Saudi Arabia. Foster + Partners came out first in an international design competition for the city’s transport network, and a contract-signing ceremony was held today to celebrate the project’s launch. The firm will be designing everything from the train stations and branding to metro, bus, ferry, and cycling spaces. This new system is being approached with a long-term, sustainable view; one that takes into account how the city will evolve over the next few centuries, rather than just a couple of decades from now.
