Today, Japan’s maglev (magnetic levitation) train set a world speed record, traveling at a blazing 375 mph (603 kph) on a test track.  Just a few days before, the train had set a world record when the Central Japan Railway Company’s high-speed train hit an also impressive 366 mph (590 kph) on its test track in Yamanashi Prefecture west of Tokyo. Just in time for Earth Day, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the completion of Grand Central Terminal’s $25 million energy efficiency upgrade project this morning. The overhaul, a collaborative effort between NYC’s Metropolitan Transit Authority and the New York Power Authority, is the MTA‘s largest energy efficiency project ever and is expected to realize a savings of $2.5 million per year in energy costs at the busy transportation hub.
