When we launched our Inhabitat T-shirt Design Competition last spring, we had no idea we would get so many entries or generate such interest from our readers. If you followed the design competition, you may remember the popular root / lungs design submitted by Jonathan Sabutis, which inspired readers with its symbolic design portraying trees as the lungs of the earth, and a catchy tagline “I am the root of the solution”. Despite the fact that this design took second prize in our reader poll, it seemed to be hands-down the most popular design with Inhabitat readers, according to comments and feedback.
Well, for all of you who loved that design — we are happy to announce that we now have Inhabitat Root T-shirts available for sale from Inhabitat. Printed in light green water-based ink on soft organic cotton American Apparel T-shirts, our newest Inhabitat T-shirts are as environmentally friendly as a T-shirt can get, and stylishly subtle.

Very nice T-shirt and very interesting website.
Happy New Year from Italy!
the root-lungs were reeeaally great, and the bamboo chopper was so creative and eye catching! it would really draw favorable attention, and guys would love it. i’d love it! aside from a lovely serene tree, those ones were my favorites. really genious. i also thought the slogan “i am the root of the solution” was brilliant, and i’m glad you made that one, but the tree/root pattern selected is a little clumpy, maybe? i don’t know, i do like it, but maybe i’d like it better in the sage color combo. is that an option?
p.s. i was given the tote for christmas. it was the perfect present!
I really loved this design as well, however aiming to be an earth loving and environmentally conscious purchaser I feel guilty as I’m all the way in the Caribbean – and I suspect the carbon footprint for a t-shirt will be too significant. That is unless I can be convinced otherwise.
Hi Architechnophilia-
Yes, there is no super green way to ship – especially by air. But I do it with the most minimal packaging using Cradle-to-Cradle USPS envelopes. But aren’t most of the clothes and other items you by in the Caribbean flown in from somewhere, at some point, anyway, since there aren’t a lot of goods that are actually made in the Caribbean? Its hard to get around that in todays world, especially if you live on an island. Anyways, just a thought. Its a valid concern.

Are they available for purchase in bamboo fabric? it’s much greener than “organic” cotton, & so much softer as well!
hi GreenClass Joe-
What makes you think bamboo is ‘greener’ than organic cotton? Bamboo is not generally grown in the US and it takes a lot more intensive processes to turn bamboo into a T-shirt than it does for cotton. I also personally find Bamboo to be too thin and sheer for a good hearty T-shirt. At the moment everything we have is just cotton. I personally love cotton. If you can convince of a good enough reason, I might look into using bamboo.

Interesting website. From the day I discover it, I’ve come every day here.
