The Lorax may be one of the first eco-friendly themed books that you read as a child. 4. The Barefoot Book of Earth Tales compiled by Dawn Casey

The Barefoot Book of Earth Tales is my favorite book for teaching how different cultures around the world set out to live in harmony with the natural world. Each of the seven beautifully illustrated folk tales are followed by a hands-on activity that promotes green living and reinforces the eco messages of the stories. This is a large, wonderful book that younger and older children will both enjoy — and it makes a fabulous coffee table book.

5. Herb, The Vegetarian Dragon by Jules Bass

7.  Don’t Throw That Away by Lauren Bergen

Don’t Throw That Away is the story of an eco-conscious super hero who teaches children how to recycle and reuse common household items. This is a lovely large flap book that shows the ways that trash can really become treasure. This colorful and fun read, shows simple ways that you can transform old clothing into costumes or how a box can become so many fun things when you just use your imagination.
