Nine year-old Cash Cayen is a girl to be reckoned with. At least, that’s what her local public library learned after they denied her entry into a “boys only” robotics program. When the Timmins Public Library in Ontario, Canada, wouldn’t let Cash join the class, she and her mom created an online petition using Change.org in an attempt to change the program organizer’s mind — and it worked. After just three days, Cash’s petition collected 27,000 signatures, enough to prompt Timmins Mayor Steven Black to announce that Cash and any other interested girls would be welcome to join the robotics program. In addition to making a difference in her community, Cash’s willingness to fight back against sexist educational programs has raised the flag once again for girls all over the world who are just as into dinosaurs and robots as their male peers.
