Candy Kirby blankets 6

Candy Kirby Designs was founded by owner and designer Erin Mercado as a creative outlet following the birth of her twin girls. After a short hiatus in which she gave birth to her third child, Mercado relaunched Candy Kirby Designs in January 2013 and hasn’t looked back. The Seattle company now employs four seamstresses, three fabric printers and a couple of US manufacturers, with Mercado fitting her home-based design work in around raising her three little ones.

Mercado confesses to a love of all things stripey, as well as candy, and this is reflected in her fabric designs. Inspired by anything from ikat prints to ice cream cones, the bold contemporary blanket prints brighten up the home, as well as a cold, gray day. All the blankets are printed using water-based inks, and as mentioned, all but two of the designs are made from 100% GOTS certified organic cotton interlock, with Mercado aiming for a fully organic range once she can source organic cotton of the right weighting for the other designs.

Organic cotton blankets retail for $46 each, and the non-organic styles retail for $28 each. Be sure to check out the rest of Candy Kirby Designs’ online store for coordinating pillow covers, fitted sheets and quilts too.
