Each summer millions of kids pack their bags to head to summer camp. The experience can offer a fantastic place to learn new things, meet new people and experience what it’s like to be away from home for an extended period of time. Some children love the chance to learn to be more independent, but others aren’t so keen on the idea of being away from home all summer. So, how can you comfort them if they do become homesick during their stay? Send them an eco-friendly care package! Check out our favorite green goodies that will lift their spirits and hopefully, keep them happy all summer long.

Excellent High Energy Snacks

Getting up early, engaging in tons of activities in the sun and staying up late can be hard on the kiddos. To help them keep their energy up and feel great all day, send them high energy snacks. Some of my son’s favorites are granola bars, dried fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, homemade trail mixes, whole grain crackers, peanut butter, homemade whole grain baked goods, and whole grain cereals.

Fun Toys to Share

Maybe part of the reason that your child is homesick is because they feel like they don’t know anyone. Help them make new friends by sending them fun toys and games that can be enjoyed with other children. Some of my favorites include card games, miniature board games, a Frisbee, a sports ball, action figures, paper dolls, jacks and marbles.

Keep them Protected

Your child may be away from you for several weeks at a time. Make sure to include some all natural and organic sunscreens and bug sprays in the care package. Also, it is a good idea to include fresh socks, underwear, an extra swimsuit, a hat and sunglasses. At night, a small item from your child’s room, such as a stuffed animal or doll can keep them company and help them feel protected.
