What do you get when you pair runners with shelter dogs? Pure bliss for humans and pooches alike. St. Joseph High School Cross Country Coach Luis Escobar came up with the brilliant idea to team-up his athletes with the caged canines to give both a runner’s high. The kids visited the County Animal Shelter in Santa Maria where they were each assigned a dog to be their running companion. What resulted was their first ever, two-mile team Dog Run. Coach Escobar offered, “I am not sure who was more excited and having the most fun… the dogs or the kids. Either way, it was a great time and I am sure we will do it again sometime soon.”
