The seeds of the photo series were planted following a conversation between Solarcyzk and her young daughter about Emerson’s own limitless aspirations for the future. Their hopeful discussion inspired Solarcyzk to reflect upon female role models throughout history, and she began tracking down quotes from them as well.

Emerson, like many kindergartners would, enthusiastically agreed to embody the groundbreaking women in preferred five year-old fashion: through dressing up in cool outfits (and wearing a little makeup). Emerson has appeared as Rosie the Riveter, Frida Kahlo, Susan B. Anthony, Amelia Earhart, and Malala Yousafzai, and the duo plan to keep creating these poignant portraits in the future, with Hillary Clinton as a likely candidate for future sessions. For Solarcyzk, the photos and quotes have become easy teachable moments for educating Emerson about passionate female innovators.

Solarcyzk originally shared the series on Facebook through Pantsuit Nation, and she is posting the photographs on her photography studio’s page as well. Anytime we need a feminist mood boost, we’ll take a look at these beautiful images and the words of the women who inspired them.
