Star Wars and LEGO are a match made in heaven for millions of kids, and visitors to the LEGOLAND Windsor resort in the UK can now view an impressively crafted model that combines these obsessions: a 500,000 piece LEGO Death Star. At an impressive nine plus feet high and eight feet wide and weighing more than 1,900 pounds, this dark side staple took 15 LEGO builders three months to create! The nearly finished structure was then installed at LEGOLAND (installation alone took an entire day) and unveiled last week. The LEGOLAND in Windsor has an entire Star Wars-themed Miniland Model display, and we’re sure fans will be flooding in to see the moon-shaped pièce de résistance as well as an assortment of TIE fighters, Luke Skywalker’s X-wing fighter, and various scenes from the movies recreated in LEGO form. Check out the time lapse video of the creation and installation of the Death Star below, and see how the builders used precision, teamwork, and a whole lot of grey LEGO bricks to create this masterpiece.
