Most maternity and nursing clothing looks very, well, like you're wearing maternity and nursing clothing. And good luck finding sustainable pregnancy and new mom wear. Thankfully, if you're looking for a maternity and nursing clothing line that's not only pretty and stylish, but eco-friendly too, Boob has just what you need at prices you can actually afford. Keep reading to see some of this lovely collection.
Mia Seipel, founder of Boob, got the idea for her company on one cold, windy day in the autumn of 1999 as she watched her sister try to breastfeed her newborn son in a park in Stockholm, “Waist bare to the icy northern wind.” Seipel notes, “Then and there, I decided that it should be every woman’s right to nurse in comfort and in style.” After that epiphany, Seipel launched Boob nursing wear, a Swedish patented innovation that’s grown to cover the entire maternity stage through the nursing years.
Innovative Nursing Design
Boob clothing features innovative, barely there nursing slots that keep you covered while still allowing you to nurse your baby. These nursing slots are so discrete, no one will even know you’re wearing a “nursing” item.
Maternity to Nursing Style
Boob clothing can be worn throughout your pregnancy and then works seamlessly into your nursing wardrobe as well. This maternity to nursing style works via deep, lined slits with zips, rouched sides and/or drawstrings that allow clothing to expand over a growing belly, then shrink back down after you give birth.
Boob strives to always use materials that are optimal for the environment and their entire collection is certified according to OEKO-Tex Standard. Since 2008, Boob has increased the use of greener materials from 20% to 82% (of the total production 2013), but their goal is 100% sustainable materials. Currently, the eco-friendly materials used by Boob, include:
- Organic cotton – 96% of all the cotton used in Boob clothing production is certified organic.
- Fleece made from recycled PET bottles.
- Lyocell, a cellulose fibre (also sometimes sold under the brand name Tencel®) made from a fast-growing eucalyptus, grown in sustainably managed forests. Cultivation of this material requires only 5% of the water used in traditional cotton farming, and because the material is produced in a closed loop process, 99% of the chemicals are continually recycled, reducing pollution and waste.
Sustainable Long Life Span Clothing
Sustainable clothing is also found in Boob design. All clothing is made to have a long life, which means you buy fewer pieces and support minimal production – an eco-savvy choice. 98% of Boob production is in Europe (with the exception of the knitted garments that are made in China) to ensure that it is as environmentally sound as possible. Boob also only works with factories that respect their Code of Conduct.
A Stylish, Affordable Collection
Boob offers dresses, tops, nursing gear, swimwear and more. They’ve got casual pieces and fancier pieces that can be worn to an event plus many color choices within each clothing category. You’d expect that Boob clothing might be really expensive, but in truth, considering the eco-friendly materials, maternity to nursing use and long life span, this is truly affordable clothing, which is great, because having a baby is expensive enough without having to outfit yourself in an overpriced new maternity and nursing wardrobe.
