A group of teachers and volunteers at a Biloxi, Mississippi junior high school banded together to transform depressing disused lockers into a sprawling work of art. Tired of the boring lockers that were an eyesore in the hallway, they came up with the idea to paint each with bright colors emblazoned with the title of a book. The new “Avenue of Literature” has decked the halls with a message of art, reading and learning, coupled with the care that the teachers have for their students. The teachers hope that the “Avenue of Literature” will light a spark for students to find a love for reading once they are back in the fall, inspiring the teens to seek out the volumes portrayed in the colorful mural that stretches from one end of the hall to the other.
